The Velveteen Rabbit starring Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan has dropped its first trailer.

The 40-minute Apple TV+ Christmas special is based on Margery Williams's beloved children's book of the same name, and is due to be released later this month.

The trailer teases the magical story, as seven-year-old William (Phoenix Laroche) meets his new toy rabbit (voiced by Andor's Alex Lawther) – who comes to life on screen – and bonds with it.

"Being real isn't about how you're put together," Helena Bonham Carter's character the Wise Horse says at one point. "When a child loves you with all of their heart, then you become real."

The film's synopsis reads: "When seven-year-old William receives a new favorite toy for Christmas, he discovers a lifelong friend and unlocks a world of magic."

Coughlan takes on the voice role of Playroom Fairy, while the cast also includes House of the Dragon's Bethany Antonia as Female Rabbit and Vigil's Paterson Joseph as King.

Also on board are Still Up's Lois Chimimba as Car, So Awkward's Clive Rowe as Lion, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries' Nathaniel Parker as Male Rabbit, Inside Man's Tilly Vosburgh as Momo and Genius' Samantha Colley as Mother.

Coughlan is perhaps best known for playing Penelope Featherington in Bridgerton, and previously starred in Derry Girls as Clare Devlin.

Earlier this year, she also appeared briefly in Barbie as Diplomat Barbie, explaining that her screen time was short due to scheduling conflicts.

"When I found out [director Greta Gerwig] wanted to have me be part of @barbiethemovie, and then that I probably wouldn't be able to make it work because of my schedule I was firstly elated and quickly heartbroken," she said on Instagram.

"So when I was asked if I wanted to pop into Barbieland even briefly my answer was an immediate, and very emphatic yes."

The Velveteen Rabbit will stream on Apple TV+ from November 22.
