Nicole Kidman admits to red carpet nerves

Nicole Kidman has admitted she still worries about her hair and outfit when she's on the red carpet.

Despite attending an array of glitzy events over the years, the Hollywood legend has claimed she still feels self-conscious about her appearance.

"So this is beautiful and it's nerve-wracking and all of those things," Nicole told E! News as she was honoured at the 49th AFI Lifetime Achievement Gala over the weekend. "And I try to go, 'Oh yeah, I'm cool with this.' But inside I'm like, 'Oh my god! Is my dress OK? How's my hair?'"

Styled by Jason Bolden for the prestigious event, Nicole looked stunning as she attended the ceremony in a bespoke gold sequinned Balenciaga floor-length gown boasting a sweetheart neckline and an impressive train.

The 56-year-old was accompanied by her husband Keith Urban, who looked dapper in a black tuxedo and chunky dress shoes, as well as daughters Sunday, 15, and Faith, 13, who both wore Monique Lhuillier gowns.

While Nicole was thrilled to get glammed up for the event, the Moulin Rouge! star feels happiest getting her "hands dirty" when it's time to leave the red carpet and get back to work.

"I've always said the balance with this extraordinary night when you have all the glamour and the acknowledgement of just what we do," she explained. "But then you go back, and you get your hands dirty and you rigorously work the scene and you try to make it work and you go back to your job."
