Night Tube could be expanded if the Conservative candidate for mayor is elected. Susan Hall pledged to extend the opening hours of the Hammersmith & City line.

She added that she hoped to expand this to the Circle, District and Metropolitan lines once work is done to improve their signalling systems.

Susan Hall said: “The Night Tube is a fantastic way for Londoners to enjoy our city and its incredible nightlife. Too many venues have closed under Sadiq Khan and his £117,000 per year Night Czar, and I am pleased to announce my plans to extend the Night Tube to four new lines, starting with the Hammersmith & City line.

“Not only is this an opportunity to revive our night-time economy and help London become a truly 24-hour city, but it is also an important part of my women’s safety plan. I have listened to women who are telling me they feel unsafe late at night in Sadiq Khan’s London. Extending the Night Tube will provide more public transport options for everyone to travel home swiftly and safely.

“On May 2nd, Londoners will have the choice between another four years of being ignored by Sadiq Khan, or voting for a new Mayor who listens.”

Ms Hall further pledged to appoint a Women’s Commissioner to make London safer for women, provide each borough with specialist Violence Against Women and Girls officers, support the Rail to Refuge scheme, and put CCTV on every new Tube train.

According to the Conservative campaign, the Night Tube generates ÂŁ2.70 for every ÂŁ1 spent.

A spokesperson for her Labour rival, Sadiq Khan, said: "Sadiq wants to do this - and if re-elected will work to secure the funding for expanding the Night Tube to these four lines.

"You can trust Sadiq to deliver - he got the Night Tube open when Boris Johnson couldn’t, as well as delivering the Elizabeth line and Northern line extension.

"By contrast the Tory candidate voted to block Sadiq’s TfL fares freeze and cheered on the Tory government imposing punitive funding deals on Transport for London."

Zodiac, an LGBTQ+ bar near Warren Street and Euston stations, welcomed the plan.

Dee Chanelle, director of Zodiac, said: "We welcome this announcement. Being located near the Hammersmith and City and Circle Lines, we believe this could benefit our venue.

"We provide a safe and welcoming environment for the LGBTQ+ community and want to ensure staff and customers have a variety of transport options so people can get home safely in the early hours."

Michael Kill, CEO of the Night Time Industries Association, said: “We have been advocating for a more robust public transport infrastructure after midnight, lobbying the Department of Transport, the Mayor's office and local authorities across the UK.

"It is encouraging to see that the public transport is firmly on the agenda. The current emphasis on public transport is promising, but it must be prioritised to bolster and support the night time economy. Ensuring safe transportation for both staff and patrons is paramount, as well as ensuring there are plenty of available transport links so people can get home in the early hours of the morning.”
