Nile Rodgers will perform on BBC One's NYE show

The BBC have lined up the legendary Nile Rodgers to perform their New Year's Eve special for 2017 going on 2018.

Rodgers and his band Chic will be jamming live on BBC One on December 31, building up the fireworks and midnight drunken singing of Auld Lang Syne before carrying on with more hits afterwards.

As well as Chic's classics like 'Le Freak' and 'Everybody Dance', Rodgers popped up on Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' and produced timeless hits like 'We Are Family', 'Material Girl', 'Like a Virgin' and 'Let's Dance'.

Will they do any of these Rodgers productions? Who knows, but they'd definitely get the crowd going.

In a statement, Nile Rodgers said: "It's been an incredible year for Chic in the UK, from playing to 200,000 plus people at Glastonbury to our recent sold out arena shows in London and Liverpool.

"This is a great way to end our 40th year in a spectacular fashion and kick off a new year that will start with the release of the first new Chic music in years and the new album. Good Times are coming in 2018!"

Last year's New Year's Eve show on BBC One featured Robbie Williams, who played a prank on fans by high-fiving them before applying hand sanitiser.

Mariah Carey's NYE performance also got people talking, but for completely the wrong reasons.
