Nirvana Fans Claim Kurt Cobain Is Alive - And Living In Peru

As conspiracy theories go, this one seems just a little bit on the lame side – but some fans of legendary grunge rockers Nirvana are utterly convinced that Kurt Cobain is alive and living in Peru.

The source of these scurrilous rumours? A less-than-convincing appearance by a Kurt impersonator on the Peruvian version of Stars In Their Eyes.

Quite how the British version of the show managed to trundle on for years without anyone claiming Elvis or Buddy Holly was alive and well is a mystery, we guess.

The Nirvana frontman famously committed suicide in 1994 at the tender age of 27, leaving behind wife Courtney Love and daughter Frances Bean.

But some fans clearly still haven’t come to terms with the fact that he’s gone.

When a 2012 TV appearance by singer Ramiro Saavedra recently started doing the rounds, some fans were convinced the singer has been hiding out in South America –despite the fact the man in the clip looks and sounds nothing like Kurt. Details, details.

The band’s official Facebook page even felt compelled to put out a statement in a bid to lay the dodgy rumours to rest. Albeit a rather tongue in cheek one.

“It is true, Kurt is alive,” his old bandmates announced. “He needed time to learn to play the guitar with his right hand. Finding left-handed guitars is not easy. We are so happy to have him back and forgive him for all of the sadness that we have held so deeply in our hearts.”

Hey, that’s a confirmation, right?
