Noel Edmonds has bravely opened up about his suicide attempt, with the Deal Or No Deal presenter trying to take his own life 12 years ago after his business empire collapsed.

The star has revealed that he left recorded goodbye messages for his four daughters, Charlotte, Lorna, Olivia, and Alice, who was just seven years old, as well as penning an emotional letter to his wife.

Speaking to ITV News, Noel explained: “My world imploded. And I lost my home. I went to a very dark space.

“The only way I can describe it is it is the darkest space that the human mind ever occupies.

“You see nothing. I mean I had four daughters, I had a wife, I had mates. I saw nothing in that dark space.

“I wrote a letter to my now ex-wife explaining as best I could why I’d reached the end, and I recorded little Dictaphone messages to my daughters, basically saying goodbye.”

Noel fell victim to financial fraud after a group of financiers from HBOS bank ruined his business, Unique Group.

The 68-year-old star is now seeking £73million in compensation after falling victim to the scam, saying that the destruction of his business cost him his “marriage, my family, my businesses, my longstanding friend and business partner; my income, my investments, my self-respect, my reputation, my privacy, my physical and mental health”.

He continued: “It cost me my security, my image rights, my collection of classic cars – and very nearly my life.”

Thankfully, emergency services were able to save Noel’s life and he then checked into rehab for help with his demons.

He shared: “Until these criminals took me to the brink of emotional annihilation, I had always felt those who opt out by taking their own lives were selfish and cowardly.

“But having been cast into that bottomless dark space devoid of logic and reason, I have a much deeper understanding of life without hope.

“Subsequently, I have donated generously and gratefully to the Samaritans.

“I use my experience to comfort and support others for whom life has no hope. Please be kind, don’t be judgemental. Life without hope is no life.”

The HBOS financiers were jailed earlier this year after destroying several businesses in a £245million scam, with the bankers spending the millions they stole on prostitutes and luxurious holidays.
