Noel Gallagher has warned his children to steer clear of the music industry – because they will never be as good as him.

Gallagher, 49, said his children can “dream on” if they are thinking of following in his footsteps.

Asked how he would feel if they broached the subject with him, he told Absolute Radio: “I’d say ‘pass me that guitar and I’ll show the benchmark here, son’ and play Don’t Look Back in Anger.

“Then I’d put the guitar down to almost certainly a deathly silence, and say, ‘Yeah, f****** dream on? Now, go put the kettle on!”

Gallagher has three children – sons Donovan and Sonny, six, with wife of six years Sara, 45 – and daughter Anais, 17, from his marriage to Meg Mathews.

The High Flying Birds frontman said he often gets into trouble with his wife for not encouraging his children to do their homework.

He said: “[Sara] will ask ‘Will you make him do his homework?’ And I’d be like ‘Yeah, in a minute.’

“I’ll just say ‘I never did any homework, look at me!’ I do get a b******** for that.

“I don’t know what the average dad is but I wouldn’t consider myself the average dad.”

Gallagher is gearing up for his 50th birthday and assured fans that he isn’t about to have a mid-life crisis.

“No earrings, no tattoos, no leather trousers,” he said. “Maybe I’d be buying a £250k motor this morning if I had a licence and could be bothered learning to drive.”
