Awards which celebrate the best of the North East’s charity sector - as well as the companies and individuals who support it - are returning for the 10th year.

The North East Charity Awards will celebrate its milestone event at The Fed in Gateshead on September 19. The event - which will see 12 prizes presented to the region’s best charities, fundraisers and volunteers - are organised by The Journal and the Gazette, our sister on Teesside.

Last year the top North East Charity of the Year prize was won by Stockton-based Daisy Chain, with other winners including Just for Women, Open Clasp Theatre Company and Tyne and Wear Museums and Archives.

The awards are being partnered by RBC Brewin Dolphin, who have been headline sponsors since the beginning of the awards, with the Community Foundation for Tyne and Wear Northumberland, and the County Durham Community Foundation as associate partners. There will also be support from voluntary sector group VONNE, Banks Group, Muckle LLP, the Newcastle Hospitals Charity Karbon Homes, Millfield House Foundation and Eldon Square.

Jeffrey Ball, RBC Brewin Dolphin charity investment manager and co-founder of the awards, said: “RBC Brewin Dolphin as a firm are excited to celebrate these awards in their landmark 10th year, and are proud to have been apart of them since they were created. We still have tremendous enthusiasm for the event as it shines a light on the brilliant work done by our charities, as well as charity leaders and individual fundraisers throughout the North East of England.

"Our role at RBC Brewin Dolphin is to help charities make their money work harder, generating a better return than cash and provide an income that forms part of a diversified funding strategy. By making the right investment decision today, we can support our community, both now and for years to come.”

Journal editor Graeme Whitfield said: “The Charity Awards are always a special night and I’m thrilled that this year will mark their 10th anniversary. I hope as many charities and their supporters as possible enter the awards so we can provide recognition for the people and organisations that do so much for this region.”
