North East tearoom closes its doors after five years of service to community

A North East tearoom has closed its doors today after five years of serving its community.

The Tea House in Middlesbrough has announced its closure and confirmed it will shut following its final day of trading on Saturday (June 29).

The business said a decision had been reached to sell the tearoom after much thought, and thanked customers for their support over the years.

They also confirmed anyone with a voucher will be able to contact them and arrange a refund.

A spokesperson for The Tea House said: “To our dearest customers.

“Almost 5 years since we took over Tea House Middlesbrough, it’s with the heaviest of hearts we are announcing its closure.

“We have loved nothing more than serving you all the teas, cakes, and lunches across the years, as well as seeing all your lovely faces. But after many a tasty cakes baked (and eaten), tea served, as well as 2 tired tea ladies we have come to the decision to sell the business.

“Anyone with a voucher please get in touch or contact us and we will arrange a refund. We will also be holding a loose-leaf tea sale from tomorrow.

“We want to thank you all for your support, we are going to miss you all & wish you all the best.

“Our last trading day will be this Saturday. We would love to see you all in the next few days if possible.

“Until we see you again. Simin & Hydeh (your tea ladies)”

Neighbouring business The Infant Hercules wished the owners well in their retirement, and said they would be greatly missed.

They said: "Today we say a fond farewell to our neighbours The Tea House Middlesbrough, Simin & Hydeh, the tea ladies.

"Neil and Liz and all from The Infant Hercules wish you a very long and happy retirement.

"It has been a pleasure to know you and call you our friends you will be greatly missed."
