UPDATE - Derbyshire Police said Rocky Taylor had been detained by officers from Norfolk Police. They thanked everyone who shared the appeal to locate him.

A ‘do not approach’ warning has been issued for a convicted burglar who has absconded from prison. Rocky Taylor has known links to Leicestershire and towns on its border.

Taylor was serving a seven-and-a-half year sentence at HMP Sudbury after being convicted of aggravated burglary and robbery in June 2020. He left the prison on Sunday (June 23) at around 5pm and has not been seen since.

Officers from Derbyshire Police are leading the search to find the absconder. Police have called on the public’s help, but urged them not to approach Taylor if they see him.

As part of their appeal, two photos of 37-year-old Taylor have been released by police. They say he has known links to Coalville as well as towns in neighbouring South Derbyshire, including Midway Hartshorne and Newhall. Taylor’s links also stretch to Sherwood in Nottingham, Sheffield, Rotherham, York, Rochdale and Walsall.

Taylor is described as being white, 5ft 7ins tall, and of a stocky build with scars on both arms. He also has black shaved hair, green eyes and may have a beard. When he was seen leaving HMP Sudbury, Taylor had been wearing a blue long sleeved top and white hat.

Anyone with information on Taylor’s whereabouts should call police on 101 and quote reference 987 of June 23. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers, free and anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or provide information on their website.
