Nottingham Forest are set to miss out on striker Che Adams, according to sister title the Daily Record. The 27-year-old was yesterday linked with the Reds when transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano posted on X, formerly Twitter, they were ‘confident’ of signing the Southampton forward.

Romano wrote: “Nottingham Forest currently ahead of Wolves for Che Adams after proposal made to the striker as free agent. #NFFC confident to get it done soon, waiting to seal the agreement.”

However, reports in Scotland have poured cold water on that claim and insist the former Birmingham City man is indeed set for a ‘big-money English Premier League return with Wolves’. They go on to say ‘ other sources are reporting that Nottingham Forest were in the driving seat but that is not the case’.

All of which seems to suggest the Reds won’t bring the Leicester-born star to the City Ground, leaving Nuno Espirito Santo with decisions to make about his striking options. Chris Wood had a decent season but Taiwo Awoniyi’s injuries and speculation surrounding his future has led to a lack of clarity.

Forest have had Adams on their radar before. He was on the Reds’ wanted list in January 2020, when Sabri Lamouchi was in charge. During the 2023/24 season, the Scotland international scored 16 times as Southampton secured an immediate return to the Premier League via the play-offs.

Wolves have also been previously linked with Adams, indeed they had an £18million bid rejected in last summer’s transfer window but now seem set to secure his services. Adams is expected to lead the line for Scotland in Euro 2024 which start in Germany on Friday, June 14.
