The heroic defiance of Russian aggression demonstrated by the Ukrainian people prevents Moscow from attempting to occupy Moldova, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said at a press conference in Kyiv on Nov. 21.

Speaking alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Sandu thanked the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the extraordinary sacrifices they make on the battlefield, defending Ukraine's freedom and independence against the Russian onslaught.

“We understand that without this resistance, without this fight, our country would have been next in line as a target for Russian occupation and, I believe, not the last on that list,” said Sandu.

“By defending Ukraine, you are also protecting Moldova.”

She added that Moldova stands with Ukraine and will continue to support the country. She affirmed that "standing with Ukraine means supporting President Zelenskyy's ten-point Peace Formula".

Previously, Sandu had stated that Russia was attempting to establish a pro-Russian "government" in Chisinau to use Moldova against Ukraine in the same way Belarus has been used.

In February, Zelenskyy announced that Moscow was considering orchestrating a coup in Moldova, capturing the airport in Chisinau to transfer their military forces through it. These claims were later confirmed by Moldovan PM Dorin Recean.
