Notorious mass killer Charles Manson is reportedly on his deathbed after a sustained period of ill health.

Manson, who led the ‘Manson Family’ cult in the late 1960s that was responsible for the killing of pregnant Hollywood actress Sharon Tate, has been hospitalised in California.

The 83-year-old was reportedly taken to Bakersfield Hospital three days ago, where he was escorted by five policemen.

Describing his condition, a source told TMZ: ‘It’s not going to get any better for him.’

The latest hospital stint comes after the killer was hospitalised for severe intestinal bleeding in January. He required surgery, but doctors returned him to prison after he was deemed too weak.

Manson is one of the most famous criminals in the history of America.

He has been caged for more than four decades after his followers went on a killing spree in August 1969 that resulted in the deaths of seven people including Tate, the then-wife of film director Roman Polanski.

He established the ‘Family’ cult at a ranch in California’s Death Valley and arranged a slew of murders in an attempt to provoke a race war.

Manson was sentenced to death in 1971, before the sentence was later commuted into life imprisonment.

During his sentence he has been cited for assault, possession of a weapon and a cellphone, and threatening staff.
