Nottingham Forest are reportedly ready to cut a deal to let Matt Turner leave after just a year as they make space and raise cash while pursuing Corinthians keeper Carlos Miguel.

Turner, aged 29, joined Forest from Arsenal last August for a reported fee of about £10 million. He went on make 18 appearances in the Premier League but had to share the gloves with Matz Sels and Odysseas Vlachodimos. In fact, Turner only made one brief sub appearance after the end of January following a high profile error against Arsenal.

Now Nuno Espírito Santo is hoping to bring in Carlos Miguel as his new number one for next season and are reported to be ready to trigger a £3.4m release clause to wrestle him away from Corinthians. He is expected to feature tonight for Corinthians in a huge domestic match against Sao Paolo and supporters may protest about his potential exit.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano said: "Deal not done yet, but talks underway on player side and plan to pay €4m clause if all goes to plan."

It means the goalkeeping department is in flux at the City Ground and Turner "could now be sacrificed to balance the books", claims The Sun's Alan Nixon. The United States international is said to be wanted by two clubs in Europe and Forest will be keen to cut a deal.

Turner has spent most of his career at New England Revolution in MLS and joined Arsenal for about £5m in 2022. He has been back in the US playing for his country this summer.
