A new Irish bar has been forced to push back its opening after plumbing problems. Katie O'Brien's had originally announced it would be opening in Nottingham city centre on Thursday, June 27.

But the free pints of Guinness giveaway for anyone who signed up to the website was on hold, with the bar unable to open last night. Painters and builders were today still busy at work inside the premises in Long Row, previously Long Row Social and before that Pieminister.

The exterior revamp is complete, painted green with traditional brass lamps overhead, and a green, white and golden balloon arch in place ready for the grand opening.

The inside has been gutted, with the bar moved to the left-hand side and extended. Brown leather seating has been installed opposite and the walls are decorated with old-fashioned paintings of landscapes, cottages and boats, along with clover leaves and obviously, plenty of references to the Guinness, aka the good stuff.

It is now hoped that the bar will open on Saturday (June 29) although the time has yet to be announced.

Operations director Shaun Jenkinson said: "We fell behind on the buildings work. We ran into unforeseen plumbing issues that we have resolved now but it has pushed us back on the overall build.

"We will be ready for Saturday, ready to give the people of Nottingham a good time and show them what we do, with live music, the Guinness which is a big one for everyone and the authentic Irish tavern."
