Now It’s Official: British Weather Is Actually Bad For Us

Brits love to moan about the weather but now we have a good reason to - the lack of sunshine is making us unhealthy.

That’s right - the miserable summers with grey skies are actually bad for us as it means we’re lacking in Vitamin D.

And we need that particular vitamin to absorb calcium better, meaning we get healthy and strong bones.

It even helps prevent bone conditions like rickets so it’s fair to say that we need sunshine for more than just topping up our tan.

Don’t just take our word for it, either - the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) say that people in the UK are not getting enough Vitamin D.

In a study, they state: “It is proposed that the recommended nutrient intake is applicable throughout the year, as a precautionary measure, to cover population groups in the UK identified to be at risk of minimal sunshine exposure.”

That recommended nutrient intake is around 10 micrograms every day for people aged between 11 and 64.

So that’s pretty much most people in the country.

To combat the standard British summertime, you can take supplements or eat more oily fish and dairy products.

Not quite the same as a glorious sunny day, though…
