A Nuneaton school has been forced to close amid a 'critical issue' Higham Lane School will be closed for the majority of pupils today (June 18).

This is, according to its website, due to a 'critical IT failure'. It means that students have been told to stay at home.

Only A-Level students with exams today are allowed in. Their exams will go-ahead as normal and the school has a 'bespoke' plan in place for their safety.

The Shanklin Drive-based school posted message to parents and carers online last night to explain the situation. It reads: "We are very sorry to inform you that unfortunately our school has been subject to a critical IT failure this evening; this includes the fire alarm system which is currently not operational and the automated entrances and exits will not function.

"Having taken advice from a number of sources, our school site is therefore unsafe to open tomorrow, Tuesday 18th June, 2024. Work will be set for students via Google Classroom.

"The only exception to this closure is for any A Level students who are sitting an A Level exam in our sports hall. This is A Level Chemistry and A Level PE in the morning, and A Level Computer Science in the afternoon. There is only a small number of students involved in the exams and we have a bespoke plan in place to assure their safety.

"These students should enter the Higham Lane site via Shanklin Gate at 8.45am where they will be met by members of SLT and our invigilators to support them. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter. We will update you with any further information in due course."
