It's official - US First Lady Melania Trump is more popular than husband Donald

There’s often a question mark over how popular Donald Trump actually is, but one thing is sure – not as popular as his wife.

Melania Trump is officially more popular than her US President husband, according to YouGov Ratings data.

The data looked at how First Ladies and their spouses fare in the court of public opinion and when it comes to the current POTUS and FLOTUS, Melania comes out on top.

Just 15 months into being First Lady, Melania is ahead of her husband in the ratings, viewed positively by 40% of people as opposed to the 35% who see him positively.

She is described as the 21st most popular public figure and 7th most famous, according to the ratings.

Her popularity could be due in part to the former model’s popularity with the opposite sex – with 47% positive opinion, Melania is more popular among men than among women (33%), YouGov found.

The ratings found her US President husband to be the 38th most popular public figure and 2nd most famous, described by fans as: Intelligent, Strong, Patriotic, Passionate and Competent.

The analysis of the popularity of First Ladies and Presidents suggested that for each living president, Republican first ladies are more popular than their husbands while Democratic presidents are more popular than their wives.

The late Barbara Bush was seen positively by 47% of Americans – higher than her husband George H. W. Bush (38%), while Laura Bush (47%) was viewed more favourably than her husband George W. Bush (38%).

It’s the opposite when it comes to Democratic presidential couples, with Barack Obama pipping wife Michelle to the post in the popularity stakes (59% vs 57%).

And while Bill Clinton is less popular than the Obamas (42%), he was still viewed more favourably than wife Hillary (38%).
