'Oh My God': Debris Flies as Tornado Swirls Close to Homes

A tornado touched down close to homes in Chunchula, Alabama, on April 10, as severe storms moved across the Mobile County region.

Footage captured by Darian Fazlic from Chunchula Georgetown road shows debris flying as the tornado swirls across a field.

The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed the tornado touched down briefly between 12:20pm and 12:21pm.

“We found a relatively short lived EF-1 that moved northwest mainly impacting one home,” NWS said.

Max winds were found to be around 100 mph.

Speaking to local media, the affected homeowner said he and his girlfriend, who were inside the house while the tornado came through, were lucky to be alive.

“I thought I was going to die pretty much honestly, just lay down and took cover,” the homeowner told News 5.

Their home is now destroyed as the roof is damaged and the garage door is missing, News 5 reported. Credit: Darian Fazlic via Storyful
