Now that The Voice has comfortably moved over to ITV, there's no longer any rivalry or contention with The X Factor.

But despite that, former The X Factor contestant and co-presenter Olly Murs revealed he hasn't heard a peep from Simon Cowell - who was also his mentor on the 2008 series - since landing his role on The Voice's coaching panel.

"I haven't spoken to Simon," Olly told Digital Spy at the launch of the new series in Manchester.

"If he wants to call me, he knows where I am. No, I haven't heard from him, but I've had some great contact from loads of other people wishing me luck. But I'm always open to advice."

The singer also said that the experience as a contestant on The X Factor is pretty much the same as it is on The Voice, as all hopefuls want the same result.

It's only different for the judges because on The Voice, if no-one presses their buzzer for an act, they don't turn around and therefore don't have to impart their criticism.

"As a contestant, they're very different, but you still want the same outcome," he continued. "You still want a 'yes' in your audition, and you want the chair to turn around.

"The hardest thing is the contestants not getting an explanation (if none of the judges press their buzzers) which is really different. It can work in your favour though - to be fair, I wouldn't want to turn around to anyone and say, 'I didn't like it' and 'it was bad' because that's not the type of character I am.

"So it's very different, that part, for me," he continued. "And it's very different for the coaches and judges, but for the constant it's the same. They want a yes, they want to become the next star."

Olly joins Jennifer Hudson, Tom Jones, and original coach will.i.am as a mentor on the new series set to debut in 2018. Emma Willis returns as the host.
