Warning: This article contains spoilers for Once Upon a Time's latest episodes 'Eloise Gardener' and 'Pretty In Blue', which aired in the US last night (November 17).

Once Upon a Time series seven continued fleshing out the new version of Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) that we're currently following in Hyperion Heights by revealing the identity of his identity in the first of last night's two episodes.

Hook has spent the season so far on a mission to find his missing daughter who has been locked away by an evil witch and in 'Eloise Gardener' the whole (rather confusing) story finally became clear.

As fans had guessed, Alice (Rose Reynolds) is Hook's daughter, and her mother is none other than Tangled villain Mother Gothel (Emma Booth).

Not that Hook knew that, of course. As seen in the episode's flashbacks to the Wish Realm, Hook visits a witch's tower and finds Rapunzel (Meegan Warner) and it's not long before they spend a romantic night together.

The next morning, however, it's revealed that 'Rapunzel' is actually Mother Gothel, who later had a baby as a result of the night and leaves her in the tower so she can escape. Hook ultimately decided to stay with his daughter in the tower, and names the baby Alice, revealing Rose Reynolds' character to be his daughter.

"I thought it was an interesting way of bringing the character somewhere new," O'Donoghue said of finding out Alice would be Hook's daughter (via Entertainment Weekly). "I've just had a baby girl and it really resonated with me."

Both Hook and Alice's Hyperion Heights counterparts (Rogers and Tilly respectively) have yet to find out their real connection, but they are already bonding in the alternate storyline.

"Tilly and Rogers introduced themselves over chess," Reynolds said.

"Chess has a major part to play in their father-daughter relationship or lack thereof, and Tilly comes to rely on those moments. The game connects them. I don't know how Tilly will react when she comes to understand that Rogers is actually her father, but on some level, I think she already knows."

And while Hook and Alice themselves may not know what the audience does in the show's universe right now, both actors are excited for their characters to find out the truth too.

"It's something we haven't touched on yet," O'Donoghue added. "I'm excited to read that episode, if and when we get it."

First the show will have to untangle all the elements of the rest of the storyline, including the fact that Mother Gothel is currently posing as the missing Eloise Gardener – and that she's working alongside Drizella (Adelaide Kane) for some as-yet-unknown reasons.

"Well, we will just have to wait and see [how Hook reacts]," O'Donoghue added. "He obviously is angry!"

Once Upon a Time airs on ABC in the US, and on Netflix in the UK.
