The annual memorial ride for local biker, Gordon Endler, will take place on Saturday (June 29), starting from Sandown Airport for the first time.

The commemorative event, which raises funds for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, is held in honour of Gordon who died in a road traffic incident in July 2020.

His partner, Jacqui Stannett, who survived the crash thanks to the air ambulance, will lead the ride alongside Gordon's son Joe.

This marks the fifth time the event has drawn riders from near and far.

Normally, over 100 bikes participate, navigating the course with the assistance of volunteer marshals who facilitate smooth traffic passage.

Given British weather, a slightly diminished turnout of 84 bikes was seen last year. However, organisers Jon Flexi and Pippa Ellis of Solent 1990’s Sportsbikes remain hopeful for a robust showing this year.

The event welcomes bikers and non-bikers alike, with members of the public encouraged to view the bikes at the start and finish line.

Food, drinks, and facilities are available at Sandown Airport.

Collection tins will circulate throughout the event. Although donations are not mandatory, any offerings will be gratefully received.

The route includes breaks at Freshwater Bay and Blackgang Viewpoint, where spectators may meet the riders.
