Orphan Black Episode 9 Welcomes Helena Back To Clone Club

With Tatiana Maslany portraying so many amazing clones in Orphan Black, you would think that, considering they all look similar, it wouldn’t be too much of a loss if one didn’t appear for a few episodes. However, with the return of Helena in episode 9, it was clear just how missed the character has been over the last few weeks.

Admittedly, when we were first introduced to Helena she was absolutely terrifying. She made us fear for the rest of the clones, had some gruesome personal issues and a fiery temper which made her scarily unpredictable.

While she is certainly still unpredictable, in her more recent appearances it has become apparent that Helena has transformed into one of the most warm-hearted and endearing characters on the show. With impending motherhood and the strong connection that she has formed with the rest of the Clone Club, Helena has finally found her place of belonging.

The character development of Helena over the last four series has been incredible. She’s the perfect mix of being maternal, naive, aggressive and comical. Take this episode for example, which started with our curly-haired friend living a peaceful life in the forest, hunting a deer and being called “Sasquatch” by a child, and then ended with her rescuing Donnie and Alison by brutally murdering their attacker (again, with her new bow and arrow weapon). The moment of shock, fear and aggression as Helena attacked was then juxtaposed by her comparison of a hog-tied Donnie to a roast pig.

With Donnie now out of prison we can only hope to see more scenes between him and Helena, as the comedic timing between the two characters is brilliant and it’s great to see him communicating with the other clones.

Helena’s return comes just in time for the season finale and with Rachel’s continuing visions and Evie Cho’s downfall, we have to ask - will all of the clones make it to series five?

Rachel certainly proved her worth to Clone Club this week, managing to take down Evie in her usual cunning way, but something tells me she shouldn’t be completely trusted yet, especially as she was willing to let Sarah think that she was going to betray her without considering the consequences.

We have to wonder what Rachel’s visions are foreshadowing, or rather if they are showing us events from the past. The visions, could, of course, be being transmitted through to her through her new eye, but by whom?

The latest visions, again, show a swan. This time, however, the swan met an untimely end. The same mysterious man also keeps appearing and viewers are beginning to wonder if he is leading Rachel to something or someone. Could it be a certain young lady that Cosima has been missing?

The visions all seem to be showing the Island, which is leaving us with more questions than answers at the moment. The final episode of the series could be the perfect set up to lead us into more reveals in season 5, but will we be left with a cliffhanger?

One major worrying factor heading into the finale is that Kira has also been channeling visions from the “future”, where her dreams are showing Sarah and the other clones in some kind of traumatic event.

Will that traumatic event be revealed in the next episode? I’m putting bets on it and I can’t wait.
