Oscar Nominees Sign Up For Leicester City Film

A film about Leicester City's shock Premier League title win will be written by the Oscar-nominated screenwriters behind The Fighter.

The as yet untitled film will be penned by Academy nominees Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson, who are set to be joined by Goal! creator Adrian Butchart.

It will centre around striker Jamie Vardy's role in the Foxes' odds-defying title triumph, who had been a factory worker just four years before joining the Foxes.

He scored 24 league goals last season and has recently agreed a new four-year deal to stay at the King Power stadium, having turned down a move to Arsenal.

Leicester's success has been hailed as one of the greatest sporting achievements in history, and Tamasy told news website Deadline: "The story represents everything we love in a movie."

Johnson added: "It's a once-in-a-lifetime story about the fulfillment of impossible dreams and the strength of human spirit ... I'm extremely excited and proud to be a part of it."

Knightbridge Films are producing the film, along with Bedlam Productions, the makers of The King's Speech.

Bedlam founder Simon Egan said he was "thrilled" to make the announcement, describing them as "brilliant writers who bring another layer of top-tier talent" to the project.

The Independent reports that filming is due to take place later this year.
