Oscars viewers freaked out by Nicole Kidman’s bizarre clapping
Viewers who stayed up to watch The Oscars were left decidedly confused by one question – and it wasn’t who actually won Best Picture.
No, debate raged across Twitter on one important topic: does Nicole Kidman know how to clap?
The Australian actress, who starred in nominated film Lion, was filmed making some bizarre hand movements during the ceremony.
Kidman’s clapping technique appeared to involve using just her palms – and it made for some strange viewing.
One viewer compared her hands to Dr Seuss’s character The Grinch, while another said she had ‘#sealhands’.

One viewer had a suggestion for the reason behind Kidman’s unusual clap, arguing that it was due to her particularly large jewellery.
Leave Nicole Kidman alone kids. You'd clap like that too with a ring the size of the Empire State Building twirling around your finger.

In a further twist, footage has emerged from the Oscars in 2015 – where once again, Kidman’s clapping was on the strange side.
My apologies to Wes Anderson. Nicole Kidman's clap is MUCH weirder... pic.twitter.com/Q0yOVQcm8D

Aside from Kidman’s hands, the biggest talking point over this year’s ceremony has been a hugely awkward mix-up over the Best Picture award, which was mistakenly given to the wrong film.
Presenting the prize, Warren Beatty announced the winner as La La Land – but it emerged that he had been holding the Best Leading Actress envelope, which featured Emma Stone's name as the winner for her turn in the film.
Mid-way through their speeches, the La La Land crew were informed that Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight had actually won the biggest award of the night – and the statue was handed across to the real winners.
