Outlander fans were left chuckling after a Waterstones staff recommendation note for the book series became an internet sensation.

The humorous message, placed on the shelf beneath a stack of Diana Gabaldon's works, was shared on X, formerly Twitter, by devotee Alison Hession.

Instead of the usual spiel promoting the book, the note simply stated: "Read this, and let Jamie Fraser ruin all other men for you."

Alison, who discovered the note in her local bookstore, said: "This made me smile in my local Waterstones as I knew it was clearly written by a kindred spirit who loves Outlander as much as me."

Her post struck a chord with Outlander diehards, racking up more than 1,700 likes. And many users flocked to the comments section to agree with the anonymous Waterstones employee's statement.

One fan commented: "Truer words have never been written." A second said: "Ain't that the truth!"

Another remarked: "So true..... and as a single woman, it makes dating slightly difficult #thebarishigh".

Diana Gabaldon's best-selling series currently stands at nine books, charting the love story of Jamie and Claire Fraser across eras, countries, and wars of independence.

The author told fans she is in the process of writing a tenth book, but it is not expected out for at least another year - and it may be the last to feature Jamie and Claire.

The TV series is currently on season seven, though some fans were left fuming after only half of the latest episodes were aired - with a long wait until November before the rest are released.

In more positive news, filming is underway for the prequel show Blood of My Blood. Scottish acting icon Peter Mullan was recently announced as part of the cast for the series, which follows the lives of Brian Fraser and Ellen Mackenzie - Jamie's parents.
