Outlander's William Ransom lands new role away from Starz drama with Shameless actress

Outlander's William Ransom, played by Charles Vandervaart, has secured a new project away from the Starz drama alongside a star from Shameless.

The actor, who portrays Jamie Fraser's son in the time travel series, is already preparing for another series as Outlander nears its conclusion.

In season five, part one, William Ransom was introduced as Jamie Fraser's illegitimate child with Geneva Dunsany, reports the Express.

Initially introduced as a young boy in series four, he was raised by his legal guardian Lord John Grey after Geneva's death during childbirth.

In the later series, William has grown up and joined the British Army but he is yet to discover the truth about his parentage.

Fans are eager for the show's return, but in the meantime, Vandervaart has been working on another project.

The actor, who plays William Ransom, is set to star in a comedy-drama titled Growing Up Gorman, as per his IMDb page.

The series, currently in pre-production, revolves around Derek Gorman who "thinks he has a simple plan to get popular... To win the battle of the bands competition and Patricia O'Connell's heart. But sometimes, life doesn't go as expected."

Details about Vandevraart's character have not been disclosed yet, but it's known that The Black Phone star Brady Hepner will play the lead role.

Vandervaart will also be sharing screen space with Shameless actress Emma Kenney.

Kenney, known for her decade-long portrayal of Deborah "Debbie" Gallagher in the Showtime comedy-drama, later appeared as Harris Conner-Healy in season 10 of Roseanne and its spin-off The Conners.

She has also featured in Robert The Bruce, Back To Lyla and Murder At Yellowstone City, having launched her career in 2008.

However, before Growing Up Gorman hits the small screen, Vandervaart will continue his role as Jamie Fraser's son in Outlander.

The first part of season seven was released in early 2023, and fans are keenly waiting for the second half.

The network has confirmed that the romantic drama will return with these episodes sometime in November.

Work is also underway in Scotland for the eighth and final season of Outlander, which is expected to be released in 2025.
