Get your own signature scent delivered straight to your door

Finding a signature scent can be daunting.

Sniph’s new perfume subscription will be your matchmaker: a personalised delivery service that sends you a different scent to try each month. Just sign up online and you’ll receive a new miniature bottle from an exclusive brand at your doorstep for as long as it takes to find the one — or three. It’s like wine-tasting for perfume.

Each fragrance comes in a handy 8ml bottle (or pay just £9 a month to receive a half-full, 4ml version), and the first one comes with a reusable black dispenser for keeping in your handbag or back pocket — it was perfect for taking in my hand-luggage.

There are six different collections to choose from (Trending Now, Female Classics, Clean, Avant-Garde, Work/Play for Men and Aesthetic for Men), and there’s a quiz you can take if you’re not sure what you like: it’ll ask you things like your favourite drinks, when you want to smell your best and how you’d like to feel when you wear perfume.

I prefer lighter scents so I received the Clean collection, whereas those with more complex and unusual tastes will be sent those from Avant-Garde— and the selection is tailored to you.

After you’ve tried each fragrance there’s a chance to give feedback. Sniph will adapt the rest of the collection accordingly, and when you find your favourite you’ll get your monthly fee off a full bottle, or you can choose to have that same miniature perfume every month.

The service is designed to help people discover what they like in a more “fun and accessible” way, says co-founder Lisa Kjellqvist. “The whole process of discovering and buying new perfumes can be quite time-consuming, difficult and expensive.”

You don’t have to commit to just one bottle: Kjellqvist says the concept helps you build a “fragrance wardrobe” with scents for different moods. An instore pop-up has launched at Harvey Nichols and until October you can try Sniph’s six most popular perfumes and put together your own gift box to take away.
