Pair charged with drugs in suspicious activity investigation

Feb. 1—A passing Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper's observation of what he though to be suspicious activity has led to the arrest of a man and woman on drug charges by Crossville Police, according to arrest reports.

The incident occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. last Wednesday in the area of the 100 block of Evelyn Ave., according to CPD's MPtl. Corey Freeman's report.

Arrested were Michael Christopher Young, 42, and Cynthia Yvonne Young, 60, both of Evelyn Ave. Michael Young is charged with possession of heroin with intent and Cynthia Young is charged with simple possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.

It all began when THP Trooper Donald Seiber noticed a vehicle in the area of North St. that appeared to be avoiding contact with law enforcement. He passed information to the city and MPtl. Freeman was one of the officers responding to the area. After searching the area for a few minutes he spotted a Ford F-150 pickup in the area of North St. and Main St. and after the motorist traveled through a stop sign, conducted a traffic stop.

A safety search of the driver yielded .26 grams of a substance police believed to be heroin and the resulting investigation led to a residence on Evelyn Ave. where it was reported the drug was sold for $20. A check of the motorist's cell phone confirmed a call from an occupant of the residence.

Police obtained a search warrant and traveled to the house. The search yielded a cell phone, multiple pipes with burnt residue, spoons, used syringes, multiple burnt foils and cut straws. In another room was a container with .23 grams of what police believe to be meth.

A search warrant for the phone yielded additional evidence of alleged drug trafficking. The two were then booked into the Justice Center jail and will make appearances in General Sessions Court.
