Two men have pleaded guilty to charges after 5kg of cannabis was found on the back seat of a car they were in on the M1. Officers from a number of teams began a pursuit of the vehicle on the southbound carriageway on Saturday, May 4, following information from South Yorkshire Police.

They were finally able to safely stop it close to junction 25, near Sandiacre, around 10.25pm. Gazmir Likaj, 25, of Market Street, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, and 26-year-old Klodian Neziraj, of Raby Street, Sheffield, were arrested and charged with possession with intent to supply a Class B drug.

Likaj was also charged with dangerous driving in relation to the incident. The men pleaded guilty to the charges when they appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday, June 27. Judge Steven Coupland remanded them both into custody and adjourned the sentence until August. In a statement released at the time of the arrests, Detective Inspector Kate Savage, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a great example of teamwork and liaising closely with colleagues from other forces.

“Searches have then uncovered large quantities of drugs which will now be destroyed. Officers were also able to detain two suspects who have now appeared in court charged with serious offences.”
