Paisley construction firm worker's death "unexplained" as company pays tribute

A construction firm worker has died after taking ill at work in Paisley on Monday afternoon.

Police and paramedics rushed to Fulbar Road in the Ferguslie area of town around 3.25pm to assist the man but he tragically passed away not long after their arrival.

The 45-year-old was an employee at City Gate Construction which has a facility on the road. The firm yesterday expressed its “profound sadness” at the death of a “valued colleague”.

Managing director Leo Reilly said: “It is with profound sadness that we confirm the passing of one of our valued colleagues, who became unwell while at work.

“And, despite first-aid support and the prompt assistance of ambulance services, our colleague, unfortunately, passed away.

“Our deepest condolences and sympathies go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

The company says its providing the family with support and working closely with the police as they carry out enquiries.

Counselling is also being offered to employees at City Gate Construction in the aftermath of what happened.

“We remain dedicated to the wellbeing of our staff and ensuring that they receive the care and support necessary during this time of grief,” said Mr Reilly.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing around five police cars and three ambulances at the scene in response to the incident.

Detectives were also said to be in attendance as investigations into the 45-year-old man’s death continued. A police presence was reportedly still on the road at 6am yesterday morning.

Police say they are treating the man’s death as “unexplained” as officers establish the full circumstances.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Paisley Daily Express: “Around 3.25pm on Monday, June 17, we were made aware of a man taken unwell outside a premises on Fulbar Road, Paisley.

“Emergency services attended, however, he died a short time later. The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
