Paramount+ Sets International Rollout Plans for Ad Tier, Premium Offers in Australia and Canada, Among Other Markets

Aiming to grow its global direct-to-consumer distribution, Paramount+ has set the international rollout plans for its premium and ad tier subscriptions following a launch across more than 45 markets last year.

The premium plan will launch in Australia, Brazil, Canada and Mexico on Nov. 16, before bowing in additional markets at a later stage. It will boast Paramount’s blockbusters, exclusive originals and hit shows in 4K UHD, HDR10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Premium subscribers will also be able to tap into four concurrent streams, instead of the two streams that come with the standard plan.

The advertising tier, meanwhile, will roll out in select international markets, including Australia and Canada, starting in 2024. In Mexico and Brazil, Paramount+ will keep its mobile-only streaming subscription which launched in April.

Marco Nobili, the exec VP and international general manager for Paramount+, said the company was “focused on scaling (its) business and providing customer choice” after having expanded its global footprint last year.

“Following the launch of the Mobile plan in Mexico and Brazil, the introduction of the premium and ad-supported plans will give us the ability to better serve different consumer segments by providing multiple pricing options while also tapping into tremendous opportunities among our advertising and brand partners,” said Nobili.

While at Mipcom where he was honored as Personality of the Year, Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish told Variety‘s co-editor in chief Cynthia Littleton that Paramount “is adjusting to the economic transition from linear cable to operating its own subscription streaming and free ad-supported platforms, with Paramount+ with Showtime and Pluto TV, respectively.”

Paramount+ offers exclusive originals, films and series from its parent company’s brands and production studios, including Paramount Pictures, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon and Showtime.

Paramount+ originals include “Lioness,” “Yellowstone,” “1923” and “Tulsa King,” as well as limited series like “Fellow Travelers” and “The Curse.”

The service also boasts the new “Star Trek” series, including “Star Trek: Picard,” “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” and  “Star Trek: Discovery,” “Star Trek: Lower Decks” and “Star Trek: Prodigy.” International original content includes the series “Bargain” and “Yonder” from South Korea, “The Gold” from the U.K., and the soon-to-launch Brazilian title “Anderson Spider Silva” and “NCIS: Sydney.” Live sports content, meanwhile, is available on the service in a few international markets, such as Australia, Mexico, and Brazil.

The premium plan will be priced at 13,99 AUD ($8.86) monthly and 124,99 AUD ($79.16) annually, in Brazil for 34,90 BRL ($6.96) monthly and 309,90 BRL ($61.78) annual, in Canada for $10.22 monthly and $91.30 annual and in Mexico for 179 MXN ($9.86) monthly and 1609 MXN ($88.6) annual.
