Parents are being urged to check their children's car seats as a popular model has been recalled over safety concerns.

The Solar Group's 1 2 3 Isofix Car Seat, sold between February 1 and February 23, 2024, is at risk of a fault that could result in the harness not locking properly when pulled.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards issued a statement: "Product: Solar Group 1 2 3 Isofix Car Seat. Hazard: There is a small internal component issue in certain batches of car seat, which may result in the harness not locking properly when pulled. Corrective action: Recall of the product from end users."

The Mirror reports that the car seats, which come in light grey, black and white, have specific batch codes. Those are Nov-2020-6, Dec-2020-7, Jan-2021-1, Mar-2021-2, Apr-2021-3 and May-2021-4.

A spokesperson for Which? advised: "If you have the affected product, stop using it immediately and contact the retailer to arrange a refund or replacement."

Further explaining the potential danger, the Office for Product Safety and Standards spokesperson added: "There is a small internal component issue in certain batches of car seat, which may result in the harness not locking properly when pulled. This could potentially compromise the safety of the child. The affected products do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005."

Car seats are essential for keeping your children safe while on the road, and a car expert has recently highlighted the dangers of cleaning them incorrectly. Tom Riley, CEO of Kids Car Store, stressed the significance of proper cleaning methods, which he believes are vital to preserving the seat's integrity and, more importantly, its safety.

He warned that using harsh or unsuitable cleaning products on car seats can not only affect the cleanliness of the seat but also cause damage that could lead to the seat failing in the event of an accident. He further emphasised that it is crucial for parents to understand and use correct cleaning techniques.

Moreover, the CEO strongly recommended checking the car seat's manual before starting any cleaning process, pointing out that the manuals offer specific guidance aimed at ensuring the seat's safety and upkeep, including advice on suitable cleaning agents and procedures. "Ignorance of these guidelines can inadvertently result in the degradation of key safety features of the car seat," he said.
