Bataclan Band: Fans Were Shot In Dressing Room

The lead singer of the band playing at the Bataclan concert hall on the night of the Paris attacks has described how gunmen slaughtered fans who hid in the dressing room.

Jesse Hughes, the Eagles Of Death Metal frontman, told Vice that only one person in that room survived as the terrorists fired indiscriminately - and it was because they hid under a leather jacket.

In the interview, his voice broke as he described terrified fans playing dead.

"A great reason why so many were killed was because so many people wouldn't leave their friends, and so many people put themselves in front of people," Mr Hughes added in a trailer for an interview to be shown in full at a later date.

The Bataclan was the scene of most of the fatalities during the co-ordinated attacks on 13 November - 89 of the 130 people who lost their lives were at the ill-fated gig.

One of those killed was Nick Alexander, a 36-year-old Briton who was selling merchandise for the US band at the venue. More than 100 people were injured.

As the sound of automatic gunfire rang out, "panic and horror" broke out amongst concertgoers – with footage showing a pregnant woman hanging from a window ledge as she tried to shield herself from the attackers.

Two Britons who survived the massacre described hiding in the cellar of the Bataclan to escape the terrorists.

For three hours, Christine Tudhope and Mariesha Payne had to listen to the "bullets, grenades, explosions and screams" happening on the concert hall floor above them.

During the hostage situation in the Bataclan, two attackers detonated suicide vests.

In light of the attacks, the UK's National Counter Terrorism Security Office has updated its advice on what people should do in the event of a "firearms or weapons attack" in a public place.

On Wednesday, Eagles of Death Metal told their fans on Facebook that they had flown back to the US and were safe – but said they were "horrified and still trying to come to terms with what happened in France".

Confirming all of the band's shows were on hold until further notice, the statement added: "Although bonded in grief with the victims, the fans, the families, the citizens of Paris, and all those affected by terrorism, we are proud to stand together, with our new family, now united by a common goal of love and compassion."

David Cameron is set to meet the French President, Francois Hollande, for talks on how to fight Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.

Meanwhile, The Sunday Times is reporting that the Prime Minister wants airstrikes involving British military personnel to commence within the next fortnight.
