Sir Paul McCartney recreated the legendary Beatles ‘Abbey Road’ cover before performing a secret gig for his family and celebrity pals.

This marks 49 years since Paul originally crossed the road with his Beatles bandmates for the iconic album cover art on 8 August 1969.

McCartney, 76, was photographed and filmed by his daughter Mary, 48, on the iconic Abbey Road crossing before heading into the Abbey Road Studios.

Here he performed a secret gig featuring a classic Beatles set and songs from his upcoming 17th studio album – ‘Egypt Station’ – scheduled to come out September 7.

Celeb guests included Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Stormzy, Liv Tyler and Kylie Minogue.

Paul’s daughter Mary McCartney posted a video of her dad crossing the road, showing the delight of surprised passerby fans. Mary playfully captioned the video, ‘Why did the Beatle cross the Abbey Road.’

Meanwhile Paul took fan questions via Instagram’s ‘Ask Me a Question’ story tool. One fan asked why he wasn’t wearing shoes in the original ‘Abbey Road’ album cover art.

He responded, “It was a very hot day and I happened to be wearing sandals like I am today so I just kicked them off because it was so hot we went across barefoot. There was no special meaning.”

On daughter Stella McCartney’s Instagram, she posted a video with her dad and celebrity friend Liv Tyler, making reference to the Paul McCartney and Wings song ‘Live and Let Die’.
