Paul O’Grady fans were in tears as ITV paid a moving tribute to the late star.

The comedian, actor and presenter – who rose to fame as drag queen alter ego Lily Savage – died unexpectedly last month at the age of 67.

His final series of For The Love Of Dogs launched on ITV on Thursday (13 April).

At the end a picture of the star was displayed.

The usual theme tune was muted and there was silence as the credits rolled.

Viewers were moved by both the emotional tribute and seeing the much-loved star in some of his final TV scenes, which were filmed last year.

"No can't keep them in, here comes the tears," one person posted on Twitter.

"So sad to see him on #ForTheLoveOfDogs last night I still can't believe he has gone," said another fan.

One tweeted: "Seeing him tonight made it feel like he was still with us, I so wish he was. They broke the mould when they made this man."

"The incredible bond Paul had with dogs is truly wonderful to see," said somebody else.

"How much he will be missed."
