Having your weekly groceries delivered to your doorstep is a convenient luxury, sparing you the hassle of navigating the aisles and making impulse purchases.

If your online grocery haul includes alcohol, you're required to disclose your date of birth to confirm you're legally permitted to purchase it. This information allows the delivery driver to verify your age in their system.

Yet, one woman's decision to "refuse" sharing her date of birth with the delivery driver over fears of "fraud" has sparked debate, with some branding her "paranoid".

On Mumsnet, the concerned shopper queried: "Am I being unreasonable to refuse to give my full date of birth to a delivery driver for my online food shop?"

She detailed her experience: "I just placed an order for some groceries and provided photo ID on delivery - Oyster 60 plus photo card. The delivery driver refused to leave the shopping, there was one bottle of wine, as I refused to give my full date of birth. No wonder we have so much fraud!"

Commenters were left puzzled by the woman's reluctance, pointing out that little can be done with merely a date of birth. One person commented: "It's just ID for the alcohol, I really don't see the issue. They ask me every time and I just tell them."

Another individual remarked: "The poor guy was doing his job, asking a question he had to ask. Honestly, what's the big deal in giving it. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face."

A different user questioned: "What fraud is someone going to commit with your date of birth?"

Some responses queried whether the woman was always "so paranoid". Meanwhile, another person offered a measured explanation: "The policy will be a policy based on any restricted products...it is a blanket policy so drivers don't need to make a judgement but you make his day a little bit harder for no reason at all".
