Persistence Pays Off as Squirrel Plucks Snack From Feeder

A winter storm didn’t stop a brave red squirrel in Germany from partaking in some al-fresco dining.

Oliver Hartung captured the flame-haired creature diving into a snack box on February 7, unfazed by the snow weighing down its lid, in a garden in Lower Saxony.

“[The] blizzard brought wind and a lot of snow to northern Germany. After the worst storm was over, this squirrel came out … and fetched a walnut from our feeder box,” Hartung told Storyful. Credit: Oliver Hartung via Storyful
