Person dies after incident at Basildon railway station as train lines blocked

A person has died after an incident with a train at Basildon railway station. British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the Essex railway station at around 9.25pm on Monday night (June 24).

The lines were blocked whilst emergency services attended the scene. Images shared on social media showed a large number of police and ambulance service colleagues attending.

British Transport Police said they were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks. Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the railway station.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious. A file is being prepared for the coroner.

A spokesperson for BTP said: "Officers were called to Basildon railway station at around 9.25pm yesterday (24 June) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A spokesperson for c2c Rail said on Monday evening: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident at Basildon the line is blocked. Train services running across the whole c2c network may be cancelled, delayed or revised."
