Person dies after incident at Marks Tey railway station as train lines blocked for hours

A person has died after an incident with a train at Marks Tey railway station. British Transport Police (BTP) said they were called to the station shortly before 4.30pm on Sunday (June 30).

The lines were blocked for a short period whilst emergency services attended the scene. British Transport Police said they were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the railway station. The incident is not being treated as suspicious. A file is being prepared for the coroner.

A spokesperson for BTP said: "We were called to Marks Tey station shortly before 4.30pm yesterday (Sunday 30 June) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Services between Colchester and Witham were affected for several hours as all lines were closed. Trains were cancelled, delayed and revised as Greater Anglia sought alternative travel arrangements for rail users.
