Person spotted 'flying jetpack at 6,000ft above Los Angeles' for second time in month

A person has been spotted flying a jetpack 6,000ft above Los Angeles for the second time in a month, according to reports.

A China Airlines crew reported seeing "what appeared to be someone in a jet pack" some seven miles north west of Los Angeles International Airport at lunchtime on Wednesday.

Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the US Federal Aviation Administration, told CBS Los Angeles the crew spotted a "flying object in a flying suit" at an altitude of 6,000ft.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) told the broadcaster: "The FBI is in contact with the FAA and is investigating multiple reports of what, according to witnesses, appeared to be an individual in a jetpack near LAX, including one today reported by a China Airlines crew.

"Anyone with information should contact the FBI at 310 477-6565.”

It is not the first time a pilot has claimed to have spotted a person using a jetpack near the airport.

Last month, the FBI launched an investigation after an American Airlines pilot reported seeing a person in a jetpack flying next to the plane.

In a radio transmission aired by Fox 11 Los Angeles, the pilot said: "Tower, American 1997. We just passed a guy in a jetpack."

A second pilot reported: “We just saw the guy pass by us in the jetpack."

The controller responded: "Person in a jetpack reported 300 yards south of the LA final at about 3,000ft, 10-mile final."

At the time, the FBI said it was aware of the reports and was working to determine "what may have occurred".
