England's track record in recent major tournaments has been littered with misfortune - but that's about to change, according to Phil Foden. The Manchester City star is optimistic ahead of the Three Lions' opening match later this month thanks to a psychic encounter with Staffordshire's best known fortune teller on the competition's eve.

A tarot card reading wasn't necessary to predict Foden becoming one of the tournament's top performers off the back of an impressive club season. His catalogue of personal accolades includes another major league victory under manager Pep Guardiola.

However, international recognition is still absent from the 24 year old's career highlights, following disappointing campaigns in the previous Euros in 2021 and the World Cup 18 months thereafter. Could fortunes be reversed in this summers games?

Fortune teller Chloe Smith, from Uttoxeter, has delivered an encouraging prospects for Foden, reports the Mirror.

Accompanied by his partner Rebecca Cooke, Foden scheduled a visit to the psychic for a tarot card reading before travelling to Germany, as reported by the Sun. The takeaway from the session was decidedly rosy.

As Chloe lives in Uttoxeter, it is thought Foden made the trip while training with the squad at the nearby St George's Park in Burton. The footballer is also known to be a regular at Cudmore Fisheries in Whitmore.

Mum-of-three Chloe shared: "I loved reading for Phil and Becca, both very spiritual and kind-hearted people! A lot of luck is coming Phil's way for sure!"

Her other celebrity clients have included former TOWIE s Demi Sims, Amy Childs and Gemma Collins, as well as ex-Coronation Street actress Brooke Vincent and Love Island’s Maura Higgins to name but a few. She boasts 150,000 followers online and claims to have helped about 50,000 people reconnect with their past.

Her unusual career path was inspired after seeing her dead grandma at her funeral and realising that she had special abilities. Chloe says she sees ghosts and angels every week and can even sense spirits lurking behind shoppers during trips to the supermarket.

But just how her prediction will materialise for Foden is yet to be seen. It could see him scoring the decisive goal in an important elimination round or successfully avoiding traffic congestion. As a source shared with the Sun: "Phil was as keen as Rebecca to get the reading done, especially with such a big tournament on the horizon."

After the trip, he was rather impressed, extending a discount code to his followers on social media. It's a relief for England supporters that Foden is not solely dependent on luck, although he admits a touch of fortune wouldn't hurt.

After all, they were just one penalty shootout away from claiming the title of European champions three summers ago; if skipper Harry Kane had scored against a weary French side, their World Cup quest likely would have lasted longer than the quarter-finals.

"Sometimes in those big games football is small margins. A big moment. A player can create something from nothing or something goes against you," he relayed to the Mail. "I feel like in those big ones you almost need a little bit of luck on your side and we've been a little bit unlucky. Harry has that pen and if he puts it away then it's a different story. But it is what it is."

Foden is almost guaranteed a starting slot for England's opener against Serbia this Sunday evening, though he'll probably be moved to the left to make room for Jude Bellingham. This decision isn't aligned with Three Lions great Wayne Rooney's opinion, who feels everything should run through the City star.

"You have to build the team around Phil Foden," expressed Rooney. "He has to be as a No10 and Jude play a little bit deeper."

"(Foden) is completely different to me (as a player), he's more mature than I was with the ball at that age. I was a bit more raw."
