Will Phillip Schofield star on I'm A Celebrity 2024?
Phillip Schofield has said 'never say never' to I'm A Celebrity
Phillip Schofield and Dec Donnelly have been pictured laughing together prompting speculation that the presenter is being lined up to appear on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here 2024.
It's been one year since Schofield quit This Morning and dropped out the spotlight when he admitted he had an "unwise but legal" affair with a younger male ITV colleague. Amid speculation that the star could be plotting a TV comeback, Schofield returned to social media for the first time in a year.
Schofield has changed his mind about doing I'm A Celebrity over the years. Speculation was rife last year that the presenter would be heading into the jungle but instead ITV bosses made their most controversial signing with politician Nigel Farage.
Ant and Dec have begged TV bosses to avoid politicians for at least one year after Farage and Matt Hancock appeared in the jungle. After Schofield was seen with Donnelly, and returned to social media, many have questioned whether the former This Morning star will finally say "yes" to the jungle experience.
What Phillip Schofield said about doing I'm A Celeb
Only two years ago in 2022, Holly Willoughby suggested her then friend and This Morning co-star Schofield would be great for I'm A Celeb.
By this point Willoughby had stepped in to present I'm A Celebrity alongside Dec Donnelly when Ant McPartlin was taking a break from TV over his drink-driving conviction. So naturally Willoughby knew Schofield would be a great fit for the show.
She said on This Morning: "You would be able to do everything though. He could eat everything, he could do everything. He wouldn't be bothered.”
Schofield claimed that ITV bosses asked him all the time to do the show. He hinted it could be on the cards one day, saying: "Never say never." However, at the time it was a concrete no from him. He added: "But the answer is currently no. I was asked. I’m asked all the time. No, not yet."
Another time on This Morning, Schofield told Josie Gibson — who has since starred on I'm A Celeb — the biggest challenge he would face on the show. It's not what you would expect: Schofield said he had no problems with the snakes or bugs. Instead, he confessed it was the idea of using a spoon to eat out of a metal can.
He said on This Morning: "I've always said, I'm A Celeb is the only one I would do. But I couldn't do it because they eat out of those metal cans with metal spoons. I've got goosebumps even thinking about it. Scraping the spoon on the tin can, I can't, I'd starve to death!"
He added: "That's the biggest challenge. Anything else I am fine with!"
Schofield supported Holly Willoughby on I'm A Celeb
Everyone will remember Schofield supported Willoughby on I'm A Celebrity in 2018. The TV star shared with the world that they had been texting each other constantly ahead of Willoughby's hosting stint.
Plus behind the scenes, the presenter left her a present in her dressing room — it was a touching gesture between close friends. He said: "I left a bottle of champagne in her dressing room, so I think that helped."
Willoughby opened up about her fears to Schofield before she headed out to the jungle. She told him: "When I first found out it’s exciting, bittersweet but exciting. The kids are coming with me so I had to talk to the schools then mum and dad are coming for a bit too. So when I sorted the logistics I then thought, 'There’s going to be spiders there!'"

Of course this can't faze her now as she has lined up to host Netflix's new show Bear Hunt with Bear Grylls.
Naturally, Schofield himself might consider I'm A Celebrity a good fit for him now. He had after all said in 2022, "Never say never."
