He’s been in the UK for a matter of hours and most of the UK is watching and waiting for US President Donald Trump to make his first faux pas.

The controversial leader is known for diplomatic clangers - traditionally administered via his Twitter account.

But this photograph has sparked a social media frenzy as Twitter users claimed the president’s handshake with the Queen looked more like a fist-bump.

However, despite appearances it wasn’t a fist bump but more of an awkward clench.

Mr Trump was also criticised for failing to bow - however, the Royal Family’s own protocol states there is no formal requirement to curtsy or bow but many people choose to honour the tradition.

Still, the handshake came under intense scrutiny.

Twitter user Helen Redding said: “Oh my. Is that a fist bump?!”

While Steve said: “Good to see Trump following Royal etiquette and greeting The Queen with a traditional fist bump

James Dylan Edge said: “Did...did he just fist bump Her Majesty The Queen?”

It’s not the first time Mr Trump has appeared to struggle with a handshake.
