In pictures: Shivering Britons go back to work in freezing temperatures

So, we almost certainly didn’t experience a White Christmas, with some parts of Britain basking in climes of up to 15 degrees as the festive season approached.

But now, it seems that winter has reared its icy head, after the Met Office issued a yellow warning across the UK – with snow expected in Scotland and the North, along with temperatures as low as minus four or five degrees.

It’s not all bad news though. As the cold snap holds Britain to ransom, it’s allowed photographers to take some truly stunning snaps of wintry conditions.

It’s time to finally get those hats and scarves out of the wardrobe.
