Piers Morgan slammed over 'sexist' comment on Women's World Cup Final

The TalkTV host came under fire from his followers on social media after he criticised Lionesses for being 'emotional'

Piers Morgan has faced a backlash from his fans after making a 'sexist' comment during the Women's World Cup Final.

The TalkTV host caused a stir amongst his followers on Twitter during the game which saw The Lionesses take on Spain in Australia in a tense match that ultimately saw Spain triumph 1-0.

However, before they lifted the trophy there was plenty of action on the pitch and it drew several talking points on social media.

Never one to shy away from sharing his opinion Morgan decided to comment on the "emotional" women on the pitch.

He wrote: "Seem to be a lot of very over-emotional women on here right now’, Piers wrote. Calm down, it’s only a game of football..."

He then added a laughing emoji to the post but it seemed plenty of users found the comment very far from funny.

One irritated follower replied: "What in the world is wrong with you?"

A second scathed: "The man who continues to go on a months long crying sesh over a moment in cricket has the nerve to call women overly emotional. Shut up."

A third quipped: "Is there a bigger loser than him? No."

A fourth social media user tweeted: "This man is a toad. When it is men’s sport everyone can be emotional, yet when it’s women’s sport it is less important and showing emotion is silly?"

The criticism didn't end there as he was slammed for being "patronising" as well as others branding him a "chauvinist."

Despite the negative reception some followers seemed to find his comments amusing and commented on his being a "wind-up merchant."

After the Lionesses failed to win the game Morgan then offered his comiserations to the team.

He wrote: "BREAKING: Our women can’t bring it home either. Good effort @Lionesses but the better team won. Congrats to Spain."
