Yahoo News Piers Morgan sparks huge backlash by mocking Will Young’s PTSD
Piers Morgan has been heavily criticised for mocking Will Young’s recent admission that he has suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Will recently opened up about why he quit Strictly Come Dancing last year, revealing that it was an important decision for the sake of his “own wellbeing.”
He told The Telegraph: “I was really ill. I was dragging myself to rehearsals. I just couldn’t do it any more. It was so bad I thought – I’m not joking – I thought about breaking my leg.”
Piers, however, was not convinced by his reasoning and accused him of not having the mental health issue.
The controversial Good Morning Britain host tweeted: “Will Young does not have PTSD. He has WNTS – Whiny Needy Twerp Syndrome.”
He added: “Seriously, is there any celebrity left in the world not currently suffering from PTSD?”
Piers’ “absolute ignorance” sparked backlash online, with many berating the 52-year-old for his comments.
One user tweeted: “WTH is wrong with @piersmorgan that he feels the need to use his platform of 6million to bully people for speaking out about mental health?!”
As another added: “Mental illness can be extremely difficult to spot in loved ones close up. You can’t possibly judge it in someone from a distance.”
However, Piers remained relentless in his opinion, as he replied to one person who was asking what he thought of mental illness: “I think it’s become a massively over-used term that damages focus for those with real issues.”
Highlighting the absurdity of his comments, one follower asked if Piers was suffering from PTSD, leading him to reply: “Yes. Piers fed up with Traumatised Stars Disorder.”
Earlier this month, Piers came under fire during Mental Health Awareness Week, when he claimed Britain needs to “man up” and “focus on those who really need help.”
