The first commercial flight between Israel and the United Arab Emirates took off from Tel Aviv on the morning of August 31 after a peace deal between the two countries was announced earlier in the month.

The flight’s pilot, Captain Tal Baker, greeted passengers in Arabic, English and Hebrew aboard El Al flight LY971, from Tel Aviv to Abu Dhabi.

Baker described the flight as “another step towards regional peace.” Officials including White House adviser Jared Kushner and Israel’s National Security Adviser Meir Ben-Shabbat were on board. Credit: El Al via Storyful
