A Place in the Sun buyers were thrilled as they found out their new home was previously owned by a Liverpool FC star.

Jasmine Harman fronted today's edition of the popular Channel 4 programme. She was helping Leslie and Clive find their new dream home in Portugal.

The married couple were looking for a new property in Western Algarve and were armed with a budget of £190,000. The search got off to a slow start but vastly improved as the two loved the final two homes on the search.

However, it was property five that won their hearts as Leslie and Clive decided to put in an offer for an upside down townhouse in Budens. The home was priced at £188,793 and Clive said he is going to start with a "cheeky" bid of £172,000.

Clive went in low because the home was in a larger development and Jasmine was amazed as the offer was accepted. Clive said: "I think that's a steal. I wasn't expecting that."

Jasmine was gobsmacked as she said: "I am actually in shock." Leslie and Clive caught up with the official A Place in the Sun website about how the move went.

Clive revealed the home was previously owned by a Liverpool FC star. Clive kept the name of the star under wraps but revealed the footballer did hail from Finland with Sami Hyypia and Jari Litmanen both notable Reds' players to hail from the Scandinavian country.

Clive revealed the move went perfectly as he spoke about his new life in Portugal. He said: “It was all very much plain sailing when we got out there, and when we completed the purchase,” says Clive, 60. “We had done the screentest by Zoom during Covid, and then were meant to go out in October 2020, and finally made it. We have managed to go out a few times since, all our four daughters have done so too, and we love it"

The two rent the property out on AirBnB when they are away and Clive said they bought the home at the perfect time. He said: "Property prices have been really going up since Covid and we’ve seen similar properties for sale now at €250,000-€300,000. It was good timing.”
