You may have thought that London is getting into skyscrapers in a big way - it seems that this affection for the uber-tall building is not over.

Plans for a new rival to the shard is expected to be submitted which is to reach an impressive height of 304m.

Destined to be the second tallest building in Europe, this new project will be only five metres shorter than the Shard.

Designed by architect Eric Parry, the building will be built on the One Undershaft site in Aldgate near the Gherkin.

A spokesman for Aroland Holdings, who own One Undershaft, told the Evening Standard: ‘It is important that our plans for a new tower on this site are right and we are taking our time to ensure the building showcases the very best of British architecture while also creating the City of London’s finest and most sustainable offices.‘

‘We plan to consult with members of the public on our proposals in the autumn.’

All we need to wait for now if what this new beast of glass and steel will look like.
